STAR

Last week the HCM crew took field trip to one of our recent projects - STAR - located in Brooklyn, Park Minnesota. STAR is a marketing company that creates everything from Trade Show Booths, to Corporate Interiors. In essence, they create unique and engaging spaces. Needless to say, they had a great team to work with!

Their cafeteria doubles as a meeting area and as a more relaxed area for employees to work. The space spills out onto the outdoor patio and fireplace through large overhead doors.

A look at interior glazing

We've been designing corporate office spaces for many years at HCM Architects, and we've come up with some nice details.

One of our favorite details is the hidden mullions on interior glass partitions. We've used this in several projects and it lends itself to a clean, contemporary space. Hiding the top mullions in a header gives the impression of a true glass wall. We also remove the vertical mullions and leave a small gap between panels.

Check out some examples below

35W Bridge Monument at the Minneapolis EOTF

HCM Architects is proud to have been a part of designing the siting, base and orientation of the new 35W Bridge Monument at the Minneapolis EOTF.

The monument was the backdrop for a 10 year remembrance ceremony last week.

Siting, lighting and location on the property were critical design decisions.  HCM teamed with MBJ to develop a post and bracket that honored the integrity of the bridge piece used.  In addition HCM worked with scientists from Valspar to propose a finish that will maintain the current level of distress of the piece further honoring the worn and honest look.

HCM Architects met with the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association to gather feedback based on the proposed active corridor along University Ave. We're working with Floodplain Collective to develop a corridor that engages the neighborhood and gives back to the residents.

CUMMINS ENGINEERING - DEMOLITION UNDERWAY

We are finishing the 100% Construction Documents for Cummins Engineering and demolition of the existing building is underway. The entire interior has been gutted out to expose the existing structure, and as you can see, the space currently is an enclosed concrete box.

Northern Coffeeworks is opening soon.  Complete with original tile floor, new maple millwork, exposed brick and a leather finish granite countertop this space is intended to blend a northern MN vibe with a historic urban location.

Other accents include a custom tile mosaic on the back bar and furniture by Concrete Pig.  Keep an eye out for their opening date, these guys are passionate about coffee!
